ting..ti-tting..ti...ting...ti-ri-ring..ta...ting..ti-tting
i'm listening to the Amelie soundtrack (for those who know: YES, i'm over my extreme apprehension about these tremendously lovely songs)...there's no one online and i'm horrendously bored...i would have studied if only i knew the syllabi...i finished hemanter pakhi yesterday...good but again typical...i wonder why bangla 'feminist' fiction always centres round middle class housewives who have sacrificed their singing/writing (gandhorbi/hemanter pakhi) talents for their families and then one fine day some old acquaintance asks them to take it up again and they become famous: this is when their husbands/children show their true chuavinistic colours...i know this is a very broad generalisation...but there is always an undercurrent of repetition somewhere...not to say that there aren't anything worth reading...there's subarnalata and nepo, debi o women's lib...also children's fiction is so sacharine sweet...i can't imagine a series of unfortunate events or a tiffany aching or an amazing maurice in bangla...the only exception being lila mojumdar...not that shirshendu mukhyopadayhaye's stories are any less intersting... in lila mazumdar's stories you do find girls having an almost equal share of adventure with the boys (maku and holud pakhir palok for instance)...though they are mostly chichkandune...and while i'm at it i might as well mention her hottomalar deshe which is a serious utopian treatise besides being a very enjoyable story....
ma can drive me crazy sometimes..she'd been pestering me about my plans after graduation so i told her i'll stay fer another year and prepare for GRE...just to shut her up, of course...now she's going around collecting old GRE princeton reviews and whatnot...i wonder what powers her...she still hasn't given up on me after 21 years of futility...
