Leo: Our report(4)

Realising that the police could not help any more and that the Malanis would continue to ill-treat the dog if we did not check on Leo regularly, we wrote to Maneka Gandhi on 14.10. 2007 asking her to take action in order to rescue Leo. She called up Mr. Malani and Mr. Malani promptly agreed to let go of Leo. On 17.10.2007, we took away Leo from the Malanis and Mrs. talwar, a dog-lover in Salt Lake agreed to adopt him. Mrs. Talwar has a large house and two rescued pedigree dogs and also keeps stray, injured mongrels in her house while treating them. When we went to check on Leo on 19.10.2007, we found him in better living conditions than he has ever experienced. he was kept indoors and was well protected from extremes of weather. Mrs. Talwar is treating him for ear and eye infection. She had given hima bath and would also treat him for skin diseases and cataract later.

If any owner of the animals do not care about their pets - this is the violation of the section 3 & 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. Please approach local Police Station to lodge a FIR against the offenders because we NGO people do not have any authority to take action directly & the said offence is a non-cognizable in which Police can arrest the accused after court arrest warrent not before where as the punishment for this offence needs ammendments - NARESH KADYAN, Chairman - PFA HARYANA, Convenor- International PFA / SPCA,
